Official Warns about Cyber Threats against Iran's National Unity

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian civil defense official cautioned that Iran's enemies are seeking to weaken the country's national unity by launching internet war.

Secretary of Iran's Civil Defense Committee Davoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the enemy has targeted Iranians' interests by taking advantage of the World Wide Web.

"At this point in time messages are sent from one point to another one within seconds; this is a threat to the country," Davoud Ahmadinejad, the brother of President Ahmadinejad, said in the 2nd Civil Conference held in Science and Technology University in Tehran.

Inviting academics to cooperate in repelling the soft war waged by the enemies, he said if Iran wants to withstand the soft threats posed by them "we should take advantage of academics' potential."

Highlighting the role of universities in devising strategies for civil defense, he said, "Before I had taken the post in the committee, just defense and energy ministers were members to the committee, but I proposed that the minister of the science, research and technology be added to the committee to involve research centers in this area."

Elsewhere in his remarks, he emphasized that the Islamic Revolution has provided the best opportunity for the developments of talents, so no one should remain indifferent towards the fate of the country.

Civil defense includes measures taken to reduce the probability of military attacks on the country and to minimize the effects of damage caused by a hostile action.
